Gratitude

Gratitude is a powerful mindset that helps youth develop a more positive outlook on life, fostering happiness, resilience, and stronger relationships. Research shows that grateful youth tend to be happier and more satisfied with their lives, friendships, families, and communities compared to those who are less grateful. Positive psychologist Martin Seligman has found that people experience the most happiness when using their strengths, and gratitude encourages young people to recognize and appreciate both their own strengths and the positive aspects of their lives.
However, gratitude cannot be imposed—it must be cultivated from within. By helping children and teens develop gratitude through reflection, modeling, and intentional practice, we equip them with a lifelong tool for emotional well-being, self-confidence, and deeper connections with others. Encouraging gratitude in youth not only improves their overall happiness but also fosters empathy, kindness, and a greater sense of purpose in their daily lives.
